The Queen of gorges!
Located at the center of Chania prefecture,Samaria national park is the most famous hiking destination for travellers around the globe.Embraced by high summits of Lefka ori hosts a trully unique biodiversity, from smelly herbs and rocky plants to protected wild animals like kri-kri or Gypaetus barbatus!On your way you will sense more than ever part of mother nature, admiring huge rocky slopes as match as the great river next to you. On the exit is located Agia Roumeli village with traditional tavernas and of course the refreshing sea. Come and live it!
Itinerary
At 6.30 a.m we will meet at your villa or close to your hotel. We need about 1h.45m to approach Omalos plateau depending on you stay.
Before we entry the gorge we will stop for 30 minutes at a cafe, just 5 km from the entrance. Here breakfast or supplies for the trek are available as aslo WC facilities
Around 8.40am and once we issue your tickets we will be ready sto start walking. The route is descending in the beginning and quite steep at some parts though the path is obvious and the view to the high summits is incredible. Here and there are available natural springs to re-fill your bottle with water as also stone-made toilets .
After 7 km of walking the great descent ends and finally we reach the old stonemade village. People use to live there until 1970. There you could take a rest or have a snak from your daypack on a shady bench . Right afrer the walk is moving under the impressive walls reaching the river at some points.
The flora around is unique and the views breathtaking. After 6 hours we reach the exit of the national park!
Reaching the village you will have free time to relax in a taverna close to the sea having your lunch ( not included ) or enjoy a swim to the sea. At 17h.30 in the evening we will catch the boat to travel at Sfakia village where our partners will be waiting to drive you back to your place.
