A unique sense of wilderness , isolation and high adrenaline are some of the words to describe this amazing via ferrata route in southern Crete situated on Kofinas mountain. On this excursion you will be able, with our guidance, to walk , climb with the help of hard wires through the amazing cliffs and vertical walls.
The tour requires previous experience on Via Ferrata routes or at any activity familiar to climbing.A full day experience in which you will participate almost privately.Wake up early and discover more!
Itinerary
We will start our day by meeting at a specific point in Rethimno city. If you stay close to Heraklion we can pick you up from a central point. In case you need a transfer let us know about it. Our trip to the South side starts at 5.30 am aiming to be there approximately at 8.00am in the morning.
Once we reach the mountainous village of Kapetaniana , passing from ahigh col, the gravel road leads us a few kilometers further and lower to a parking spot. Here is where you will get the equipment for the Via Ferrata route. Harnesses , rock helmets , carabiners and gloves are all highly tested and necessary for the excursion.
The first part is a simple walk on rocky terrain and in about 20 minutes the entrance to the gorge is visible. Right immediately some catches and we are into it!
We continue down the gorge as the first hard wire is set and waits for us to join the adventure. Here we will show you the right way to set your equipment , how to approach the anchor point and also all the right movements to keep you and the other members safe.
In the middle of the route we climb on a rocky spine again using our hands and the wires. Further on comes the most exposed but also panoramic view point as you have to traverse on a rocky wall before you reach the mountain slope. The last part is about an ascent directly up to the hill stepping on an iron ladder. Finally 30 minutes of easy hike follows to reach our vehicles back on where we started earlier.
After the excursion you will have lunch in a traditional taverna before you travel back to your place.
This activity is not recommended for children or for people above 55 years old without any previous experience. This tour does not include liability insurance and you must provide to us your personal insurance as also to sign a form in which you undertake the responsibility about your acts or any result of it.
